In 2017 Donna Maya visited Detroit for more than a month. She was quite disturbed by, as well as fascinated from the apocalyptic state of the city. Taking Detroit as a perfect example for what capitalism does to a social environment when cultural values where given up, she explored various sites of Detroit that wrote industrial and cultural history and captured their sounds, including the Ford factory, the world's tallest, now abandoned central station and the once magnificent Michigan Theater, that was brutally converted into a parking garage. She transformed the recordings into nine dense, artificial sound sculptures combined with electronic beats with a slightly dystopian vibe that got even more intensity by her theremin playing.

The nine tracks of the album draw a musical picture of how Donna Maya experienced Detroit and shows that not only a city has been lost, but a living space for everyone. Her music reflects on how to handle crises, how we value culture, what we preserve, what we are willing to give up and questioned our own appreciation of culture. It points on cultural consequences that affects us all, whether we are in Detroit or Berlin or anywhere else today. Lost Spaces -> Detroit is an experience of pure urban experimental electronics with theremin.
